Each school applies its own oversubscription criteria once a child meets the qualifying standard. To qualify for admission, King Edward VI Grammar School requires candidates to achieve a final standardised score of 330 or above. Chelmsford County High School’s FSCE exam does not publish a fixed pass mark; the qualifying standard is set annually based on the cohort’s results.
The candidates take two tests, one in English and one in Mathematics. The English paper will last 60 minutes, with 10 minutes of additional reading time. The Mathematics paper will last sixty minutes.
