Reading School (‘the School’) is a designated grammar school and operates as a single-sex academy. The School admits 138 day pupils into Year 7 each year. An additional 12 boarding places are available. The Published Admissions Number (PAN) is 150. The school may admit above its PAN and will notify the Local Authority if this occurs. The school may choose to admit more than 138 students (150 including Boarding).
Kendrick School admits 128 girls into Year 7 using a two-paper GL Assessment format covering English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning, each paper approximately one hour, sat on 18 September 2026. Much of Earley’s RG6 postcode falls within Priority Area 1, the highest-priority zone, giving local girls priority over Priority Area 2 candidates when the school is oversubscribed. Kendrick receives over 8 applications per Year 7 place, and the qualifying aggregate standardised score is typically around 100.
Neither school operates a single fixed pass mark published in advance. Kendrick’s qualifying score varies year on year, and meeting it doesn’t guarantee a place.
