Why Families in Longlevens Choose 11 Plus Tuition

It can be challenging to get into a Gloucestershire Grammar School. These are the main reasons why families in Longlevens ask us for help:

1-round
Many families in Longlevens choose 11 Plus tuition so their children can feel confident and prepared for the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools Entrance Test before Year 6.
2-round
Some children do well in primary school but find the 11 Plus exam style quite different. Practising regularly helps them get used to the questions and feel more confident.
3-round
Maths questions often involve several steps and careful reasoning. Tuition teaches children how to solve these problems accurately while working within the time limit.
4-round
Verbal Reasoning introduces new types of questions, such as word patterns, letter codes, and logical sequences, which children rarely encounter in regular primary school lessons.
5-round
Non-Verbal Reasoning can be challenging because it requires children to recognise patterns, rotations, and visual relationships. Step-by-step teaching helps them answer these questions more confidently.
6-round
Since places at Gloucestershire Grammar Schools are very competitive and registration is only open for a short time each year, many Longlevens families decide to start preparing early with expert help.

Why 11 Plus Preparation Matters for Longlevens Families

Many families in Longlevens begin preparing early since places at Gloucestershire Grammar Schools are very competitive. Children need to do well on the entrance test to have the best chance of getting a spot.

The Crypt School in Gloucester has 150 places for Year 7. To get in, students must register for and pass the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools 11+ test (GL Assessment). Parents need to sign up on the Gloucestershire County Council website, have their child take the test in September of Year 6, and submit the Local Authority Common Application Form by 31 October.

Sir Thomas Rich’s School admits around 155 students into Year 7 each year. Admission is based on performance in the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools Entrance Test, and there is no fixed catchment area, making competition strong across the county.

All seven grammar schools in Gloucestershire use the same entrance test. If your child is starting in September 2027, you can register between 12 noon on 18 May 2026 and 12 noon on 26 June 2026. The test is on 12 September 2026, and results come out in mid-October. Remember to send the Common Application Form to Gloucestershire County Council by 31 October 2026.

Preparing early gives children more time to work on their English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning skills. It also helps them build the confidence they need to do well on test day.

How a Longlevens Student Solved Spatial Reasoning Grids

inverted-comma

A Year 5 student from Longlevens did brilliantly in school but felt completely lost when faced with the abstract pattern matrices on the Gloucestershire test. Visual puzzles and shape rotations left her guessing answers and dropping vital marks during home practice runs. She joined our live online tutorials to master systematic visual decoding tricks and rapid elimination tactics. By September, her pattern-spotting speed peaked, allowing her to handle the GL papers calmly, secure a top rank, and win a coveted grammar school place.

Maths

11 Plus Maths

We teach the advanced Maths topics for the Gloucestershire exam, including fractions, ratios, and percentages. Our lessons help children develop strong math skills, solve difficult word problems, avoid common mistakes, and manage their time well during exams.

11 Plus Verbal Reasoning

11 Plus Verbal Reasoning

Verbal Reasoning can be surprising for children since it is not usually taught in primary school. We cover all types of exam puzzles, like word codes and letter patterns, using clear, step-by-step methods. This way, children feel confident before the September test.

11 Plus Non-Verbal Reasoning

11 Plus Non-Verbal Reasoning

This part of the exam tests visual thinking with shapes, patterns, and spatial grids. Since these puzzles are often new to students, we offer simple tools to help them quickly find hidden rules. This increases their speed and confidence in solving problems.
