Why Families in Redditch Choose 11 Plus Tuition

Many families in Redditch come to 11 Plus tuition once they realise how different the entrance test is from ordinary school assessment. It is usually one or more of these situations:

1-round
A child does consistently well in class, but their scores in timed practice papers haven’t yet caught up with their classroom ability.
2-round
In Maths, the child understands the underlying method but loses marks translating that into multi-step, worded problems once the clock is running.
3-round
In English, the child reads and discusses texts confidently but finds it harder to produce a fully structured written answer inside a strict time limit.
4-round
In Verbal Reasoning, the child hasn’t come across code-based or analogy-style questions before, since these rarely appear in mainstream primary schoolwork.
5-round
In Non-Verbal Reasoning, the child finds it difficult to spot the pattern inside a shape sequence without focused, repeated practice.
6-round
The family isn’t sure how to divide preparation across Years 3, 4 and 5 so that all four tested areas are properly covered well before the registration deadline.

Why 11 Plus Preparation Matters for Redditch Families

Redditch does not have its own selective state school, so families typically look outward to nearby Grammar Schools when a selective place is the goal. Grammar School entrance tests assess additional reasoning and problem-solving skills that usually require focused preparation beyond everyday classroom learning.

For 2026 entry, Alcester Grammar School, the nearest Grammar School to Redditch, set an automatic qualifying score of 225, with 220 required simply to join the waiting list. All 150 places were filled, and 143 of those offers went to children living inside the school’s priority area.

No offers at all were made to children living outside that priority area, which is defined as a circle of 16.885 miles measured from the Fountain in Rother Street, Stratford-upon-Avon. Families should check their own address against the school’s published admission arrangements.

Where a school receives more qualifying applications than it has places, admission is decided using that school’s published oversubscription criteria, commonly factors such as test score ranking and distance from home.

Because a single test result can open the door to eighteen different Grammar Schools across several counties, many families in Redditch treat structured, early preparation as a genuinely worthwhile investment.

Students We Support for the 11 Plus in Redditch

We support families throughout Redditch and its surrounding areas, including Warwick, Stratford-on-Avon and Wychavon, across B96, B97 and B98. We also prepare students attending local schools such as Webheath Academy Primary School, Matchborough First School Academy, St Thomas More Catholic First School and others.

We also support households across the wider north-east Worcestershire and county border area, including Studley, Shipston-on-Stour, and Alcester, through the same online preparation pathway.

Many of these children are in Year 3, Year 4, or Year 5 and are working towards selective places at Alcester Grammar School, King Edward VI School, and Stratford Girls’ Grammar School in Warwickshire.

Registration for the 2027 Warwickshire Grammar Schools Entrance Test closed at 4:00 pm on Monday, 30 June 2026. The entrance tests will take place on Saturday 12 September and Sunday 13 September 2026, with results released through the Parent Portal on 16 October 2026. Families living in Redditch must submit their secondary school application to Worcestershire County Council by 31 October 2026, listing their preferred Grammar Schools. National Offer Day is 1 March 2027. Parents who miss the registration deadline should contact Warwickshire Admissions promptly to discuss whether a late registration can be considered under the published admissions arrangements.

For Redditch students aiming at a later transfer point rather than Year 7 entry, we offer 12 Plus and 13 Plus tuition as well.

How a Redditch Student Progressed With Structured Preparation

inverted-comma

One Redditch pupil began lessons with us in Year 4 after an assessment showed solid classroom Maths but noticeably weaker Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, an imbalance that isn’t unusual since neither skill is taught directly in primary school. Across roughly eighteen months of weekly lessons and steadily increasing timed practice, his reasoning scores closed the gap with his Maths, and by the autumn of Year 5 he was sitting full mock papers within the target time limits and with much greater consistency.

Maths

11 Plus Maths

In our Maths sessions, teaching moves beyond classroom fluency towards exam behaviour. Children work through number and place value, fractions, decimals and percentages, ratio and proportion, measurement, geometry, early algebra and statistics, always in the multiple-choice format the test uses. Because marks depend on speed as well as accuracy, we train students to estimate before calculating, eliminate impossible options, and leave a stubborn question and return to it rather than spend ninety seconds chasing a single mark.

11 Plus English

11 Plus English

English preparation covers comprehension and inference, spelling and punctuation accuracy, and building the ability to write a clear, well-structured answer within a strict time limit. Vocabulary work runs throughout, using synonyms, antonyms and word-root exercises so pupils can work out unfamiliar words in the West Midlands Grammar School entrance test itself rather than relying purely on memorised lists.

11 Plus Verbal Reasoning

11 Plus Verbal Reasoning

Verbal Reasoning sessions introduce the question types Redditch pupils are most likely to meet, including letter and number codes, word relationships and analogies, and logic-based puzzles. Because these formats are unfamiliar at first, we build up from guided examples to timed independent practice at a pace each child can manage.

11 Plus Non-Verbal Reasoning

11 Plus Non-Verbal Reasoning

The West Midlands paper tests spatial reasoning alongside conventional non-verbal questions, and this is where unprepared children lose the most ground. Lessons cover sequences, matrices, analogies, codes, rotations and reflections, then move into genuinely three-dimensional work such as nets folded into solids, cubes viewed from new angles and shapes assembled from separate parts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who provides online 11 Plus tuition in Redditch, Worcestershire?

Adnan Khan Tutoring provides live online 11 Plus tuition for Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 children in Redditch, Worcestershire. Because Worcestershire has no state Grammar Schools, lessons prepare students for the West Midlands Grammar Schools’ Entrance Test, produced by GL Assessment and shared by 19 selective schools across the region.

What score does my child need for Grammar School consideration?

Each school sets its own automatic qualifying score after the test has been sat and analysed, using marks standardised for age around a median of 200. For 2026 entry, Alcester Grammar School had a pass mark of 225, and Stratford Girls’ Grammar School had 227.

How is the West Midlands 11 Plus structured?

The entrance test is produced by GL Assessment and consists of two papers, each lasting approximately 50 to 60 minutes. Questions are multiple-choice and marked electronically, covering English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal and Spatial Reasoning.

Does meeting the qualifying score guarantee a place at Alcester or the Stratford Grammar Schools?

No. A qualifying score makes a child eligible for consideration, after which each school applies its own admissions and oversubscription criteria. For 2026 entry, every one of Alcester Grammar School’s 150 places went to a child living inside its priority area.

When should my child start 11 Plus tuition in Redditch?

We recommend starting in Year 3 or Year 4 so there is time to cover all four assessed areas properly, particularly Verbal and Spatial Reasoning, which are not taught in school.

Is online 11 Plus tuition effective for Grammar School preparation?

Yes. Live online lessons with mock papers and immediate feedback are highly effective, and they remove the commute towards Warwickshire or Birmingham. Combined with marked homework and timed practice at home, students receive complete exam preparation.

Do you run 11 Plus mock exams?

Yes. We provide full-length timed mock exams modelled on the GL Assessment format used in the West Midlands test, including the spatial reasoning section. Each mock is followed by a breakdown of where marks were lost and why.
